 | Porsche has unveiled their new GTE-spec endurance racing 911 that will race in the US and Europe in 2017. The truth is that Porsche has only revealed the front of the next race car. The new photos reveal nothing of the profile or the rear of the car. Conspiracy theorists suspect the new car might be turbocharged like the roadgoing Carrera, so Porsche would want to hide anything that might give away what powerplant it's using. Others suggest it may have to do with the placement of the engine. It has been rumored that the next 911 GTE would move the engine forward to become a mid-engined machine. |
 | The photographs show the all-new 911 RSR undertaking a shakedown at Porsche's Weissach test track at some point over the past month. The car is based on the 911 road car, which has hit the market this year, but no further technical details have been released. The first GTE class 991 carried over the four-litre normally-aspirated flat-six engines of its 997-shape predecessor rather than adopting one of a new generation of direct-injection powerplants introduced in the road cars. A Porsche spokesman said no further technical details would be forthcoming until the official launch of the car towards the end of the year. Porsche will run two full factory GTE Pro cars in the Le Mans 24 Hours next month under the Porsche Motorsport banner. |
